Thebes is aroused by a divine power that disrupts the existing order: Dionysus and his intoxicated cult - the members are women. They have come to his mother's grave and are demanding recognition from the city.  What threat does this cult, ie the unconscious, the irrational, pose?  

Or isn't this strangeness only enriching for a society?  

Can both sides coexist, or will the old order ultimately have to give way to a new one?
