Klemens Hegen studied philosophy and theater studies in Leipzig and was a directing student at the Academy of Performing Arts Baden-Württemberg from 2016 to 2020. Since then he has worked as a freelance director and visual artist in Germany and Austria. His artistic work is characterized by an interest in interdisciplinary exchange with other artists and extensive research. The focus is on social transformation processes and an interest in science and research. He most recently worked with the dramaturge and author Natalie Baudy on the theater installation JETZT IMMER about the amnesia patient HM and critically examines the connection between identity and memory. He is currently working on the question of how failure can be represented, looking for the beauty of mistakes and researching for APOLOGETIC on the emotional reference and field of action of apologies. He has received numerous grants for his work, including from the Cultural Department of the State Capital of Munich, the Cultural Office of the City of Stuttgart and the Cultural Department of the City of Vienna. In 2021 and 2022 he received the INITIAL scholarship from the Academy of Arts Berlin.
