Klemens Hegen studied philosophy and theater studies in Leipzig and was a directing student at the Academy for Performing Arts Baden-Württemberg from 2016-19. Since then he has been working as a freelance director in Germany and Austria. His artistic work is characterized by an interest in interdisciplinary exchange with other artists and by extensive research. The focus is on social transformation processes and interest in science and research. He recently worked with dramaturge and author Natalie Baudy on the theater installation JETZT IMMER about the amnesia patient HM and critically examines the connection between identity and memory. He is currently working with poetry of failure on the question of how failure can be represented, looking for the beauty of mistakes and researching the emotional reference and action field of apologies for APOLOGETIC. He has received numerous grants for his work, including from the Department of Culture of the City of Munich, the Department of Culture of the City of Stuttgart and the Department of Culture of the City of Vienna. In 2021 he received the INITIAL grant from the Berlin Academy of Arts.
